Vintage Cars: name of a car, there were dozens, affordable cars

Question
I was at a car show yesterday & saw a cute little car. It looked like Luigi from the movie 'Cars'. It was small, skinny, I believe it sat 4. It had 1 tail light on the back. The windows opened side to side instead of up & down. I was a convertable. The owner said it gets about 50 miles per gallon. The builder that made these was trying to make affordable cars she said. I think it was from the 40's??? Maybe between 42' - 47'???

Answer
Most experts agree that "Luigi" was based on the Fiat 500, but that car didn't hit the market until 1957.  The only other car that fits this description was the German-built Messerschmidt, a skinny little car that seated two (it almost looked like a torpedo or a submarine on three wheels), and was available as a convertible.

Beyond that, you have to remember that there were dozens of companies that started making tiny, affordable cars right after WWII.  These companies managed to produce a few dozen to a few hundred vehicles, then when out of business.  Here in the US, Crosley and Kurtis were the most successful, but there were dozens of others.  If you could e-mail me some pictures, I could probably identify it.
