Vintage Cars: 1972 w115 with gas 115.920 engine, w115, pushrod

Question
I have just begun restoring a family 53K mile powder blue 220. The folks messing with it before me left some misery.
I'm not a certified mechanic but have some experience and love the car.
The fuel pump seems to be non functional. Its the pushrod type. Can I find a replacement? Is there an electric thats better?
Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hey Bob
This is MBman from the forums!
anyway are you sure it is shot or is it plugged? If you can get it off you can often take it apart and clean out all the goo..
gas that sits around literally turns to goo.
have you pulled the screen in the tank, blown out the exit and return lines?
Do you have free gas flow to it.  There are several areas in the fuel delivery that can cause flow to decrease.  You should have a mechanical pump and not electric.  They can be retrofitted but they take some doing.
