Vintage Cars: 87 Merz 420 SEL, Fuel Distributor Problem, vacuum leaks, fuel pump relay

Question
87 Merz 420 SEL will not crank but will run if gas is poured into the air intake.  Fuel is pumped from tank to the fuel distributor but will not crank.  Fuel pumps work.  Appears that something at the fuel distributor is not working.  Have replaced the fuel pump relay and the fuel distributor.  Gas is pumped up to the fuel distributor but is not pumped out of the distributor to the cylinders.  Could it be an electrical problem at the fuel distributor?  If so, what do I do?  What else could it be?  How do I fix the problem?  Thanks for any help!

Answer
several things come to mind. If you are getting fuel to the distributor then  make sure you do not have any vacuum leaks in the fuel distribution network, this system is  vacuum driven.  If you have a new fuel distributor then I assume the plunger in it is working properly. These have been know to stick open or closed.  These units also need constant and even gas flow , make sure that there is no restriction from tank to relays. You do have spark?
You are certian no gas is getting into the cylidars?  You are not wet fouling the plugs?
Other things that come to mind are CPS ( crank position sensor)   have you replaced fuel filter, this car has two fuel pumps, both working?
Could be CIS computer, but typically not common.
Outside chance your nuetral saftey switch is bad and not allowing spark?
Not sure I helped.  I do know these cars have had issues like you describe , but most can be traced to the relay , pump, clogged fuel lines/filters or vacuum.
Let me know any other symptoms or if there is any new findings.  The 87 420 SEL is a fine car
