Vintage Cars: Mercedes convertible problems., easy job, hinge

Question
Hi !

I have been using a 1971 Mercedes 350 SL in a movie here in Norway.
When I was going to release the convertible "cover/lid" to take the top up again the wire broke and it is not possible to release the "cover/lid".
Are there any way I can release and put in a new wire without dismantle the hole car ?

Any sites where I can find pics/drawings of how to solve this problem ?

Best regards Howard in Norway.

Answer
Hmm, you  will have to remove back panel ( where the handle is) to access the cable.  Not an easy job, but just no other way to release from the trunk or above.  Hope that helps and good luck

Also I did find in my maintenance manual that you can snake a wire through the back opening where the trunk hinge is loocated and snag the cable and then pull it to open, it also shows a small hook like object you can snake down the front hinge area to help release it.
If you have a fax I could fax it to you or email you a PDF file
