Vintage Cars: cowl tag to get vin, 57 chevy, seat area

I have a cowl tag for my 57 chev convertible but no vin tag. Chassis has no vin (apparantly many didn't). Can I get the vin from the cowl tag body number info, if so from where?

The Vin number on a 57 Chevy is on the drivers door frame between the hinges.  Look there.

If that isn't there, then it should be on the chassis, drivers side, maybe under the drivers seat area (under the seats rarely gets destroyed in a crash.
