Vintage Cars: ignition coil, english cars, polarity

Question
i have a positive ground car     should the wire from the start switch be hooked to the neg or pos on the coil

Answer
Sorry about the delay: I was away. On positive grounds (lots of 1950s-60s English cars) the negative is live, and goes from the ignition switch to the negative coil terminal. (Check that it's the right wire with a testing light: it must go live when the ignition is switched on.) Actually, it doesn't matter much if you get it the wrong way round: though not recommended, ordinary old coils work more or less the same in either polarity (as I found when I had a misconnected one for years).
