Vintage Cars: MG Midget Battery Connection, starter solenoid, battery connection

Question
I have a 67 midget without a battery. Can you tell me which way the battery should be installed. I am assuming that it is  - battery pole to the battery strap which is earthed???? and the plus pole to the battery strap which is connected to the coil.

Many Thanks,

Mike

Answer
I don't know that Midget personally; but be careful. It's very likely a positive ground car. You should find that the battery terminals (and the posts on the battery) are slightly different diameters, and that the terminals only go on properly (good fit) one way.

So if I'm right, the positive is of course the wire that goes to the chassis or frame nearby, and the live (negative) goes to the starter solenoid and the ignition switch/coil. Sorry not to be definite.

Alternatively, Google around (I just got lots of hits with MG, "positive ground", midget.

added later, quick thought...
if the car is positive ground, the ignition switch wire should be connected to the negative terminal on the coil.
