Vintage Cars: 1979 Firebird Formula, magnetic clutch, tick sound

Question
 1.  My ac works, but when I looked at my ac under the hood it looked like the clutch would stop spining while still engaged and lock up or something. My belt would still be spining. Also it made a ticking sound for the first time while the clutch was in gaged. Not the same tick sound that you hear when engaging the clutch. I was thinking possibly the bearing?
  2. Also sometimes when im at a dead stop and when I take off with the wheels turned its like my steering kinda locks up until I let off the gas. I do have 17in. rims on the car. What could I do to fix the problem?
Thanks in advance, Michael.

Answer
The A/C compressor will turn on and off normally, and the middle portion of the pully will of course still turn.  It is a magnetic clutch that pulls the spinning portion in contact with the other part that is attached to the compressor shaft.

A ticking noise could be a bearing, maybe get it checked.

About the steering, you need to carefully inspect the steering and suspension with the car sitting on its wheels, with one or two people in the car (to settle the suspension so it is like when you drive it) and check for any spots that are binding or rubbing.

Depending on how wide those wheels are, you could be hitting something, and if it is the inside of the tire on something, you could cut a tire down!
