I would like to know how to look up the vin # to find out more about the car just bought it

The VIN should be visible through the windshield, on a little plate at the base of the glass.  Or, it may be under the hood.  Regardless, trying to find info on the Internet about cars built before 1979 is tough.  Of all the sites I've seen that allow you to do online research, you need the 17-digit that started in '79 in order to search online.  You should Google "classic Mustang club forums" and then use that list to contact other Mustang owners for the info you're after.
