Question
Hi Ron,
Shift linkage from last week went great car is up and running, Transmission is working fine but I have a serious leak. On adding fluid it drips at the junction between the engine and the transmission ,Added a quart and got a steady dripfor a minute or so. Any ideas? i 'm afraid to bring it to a transmisson place and get banged up. What do you think? Again I'd like yhank you for all your excellent advice. Regards,

Answer
Hmmm, tough to say, but if it is overfilled it will drain out on its own, most trannys have the ability to drain the overfill.  Why are you adding fluid?  Make sure you check fluid hot and on level ground, engine running and in nuetral ( unless the owners manual says something different)  Overfill is worse than underfilled, at least on most vintage cars.  If it is just a fill issue than it should resolve. The problem a lot of folks have is they see drips and they assume they need to add creating an overfill situation. Also make sure your torque convertor drain plug is tight.
If it is not an overfill issue then the issue would be more severe, possibilities - cracked torque convertor, main seal failure, or other type of metal fatigue, lets eliminate one possibility at a time
