I was wanting to do a vin search and all that I can find are vin searches for 17 digit vins..where can I go to find the history on this corvette

All the public-searchable databases for vehicles start with 1979, when they switched to the 17-digit format.  I know of no place you can go to and bring up the info on this car.  But, because it's a Corvette, there's a better-than-average chance that the owner has all the paperwork for the car.  If not, then it's time to make a low offer (Corvette owners know how important legitimate documents and paperwork are to the value of their car), or look elsewhere.  There are always lots of Corvettes for sale, especially post-1972 models.
