Vintage Cars: 1957 chevrolet, speedometer cable, bell housings

Question
Can I transplant a 1966 230 6 cyl pick-up engine into a 1957 chev car with a 235 6 cyl without modifications?

Answer
It should fit, but the motor mounts might be different.  You might want to use your original bell housing if you are using the original transmission, or use the new bell housing if using a newer tranny.

I don't know 100% for sure everything involved with this, but an examination of the two engines/transmissions for motor mount location should tell you what you need to know. (don't forget to measure the bolt patterns of the bell housings, tranny mount etc.  Also check where the speedometer cable comes out of both transmissions)  Also, if you have a manual transmission and swap bell housings, make sure the pedal mechanism is the same.

That engine didn't change all that much over the years.
