How do I identify the year of the engine in my 1969 Lemans?

Assuming the engine has not been decked (that wipes out the engine sampings on the pad on the passenger side of the block just under the head), you just check the numbers.

Here is a web site that will tell you what codes denote what engine.  If you don't find the code for the engine in your car, then it might not be a 69, search for other years.
