Vintage Cars: 1950 Ford Vin #, ford vin numbers, free public forum

Question
I have a 1950 Ford Club Cuope that was my great grandpa that is in decent shape.  I am trying to get a duplicate title, but the DOT states that they have no record due to the VIN number.  The Vin is BOKC142135. I understand that it is not 17 characters, does this VIN seem possible?

Answer
Barry,

I am going to send you to some true experts on your vehicle, the Early Ford V8 Club.

These people are really informed, enthusiastic and helpful.
The web site has a free public forum where you can ask a question and read the posts without even registering or being a member, but I encourage you to join anyway.

Someone there will be able to answer your question.

As to the VIN, yes, modern cars have 17 digits in the VIN, but this wasn't true for older cars.  The State should be able to track your car even though it has the older VIN number.

On-line VIN checking places won't be able to trace your car though, because their software has to use the 17 digit format.

Make sure you have the VIN correct, because some of those old number plates can be hard to read a zero can be the letter O, a one could be an I, A V anc look like a U etc.

I am not up on 1950 Ford VIN numbers but yours doesn't seem right.  Check with the club mentioned, I bet you get an answer.

You may have to look for your VIN somewhere else, it might be on a frame or maybe the engine block.
