Vintage Cars: Inline 8 cyl casting number, pierce arrow, straight 8s

I have an inline 8 cyl block, head, crank, and camshaft. the casting number I found on the block is 514246 and i am trying to figure out what this engine is out of. Any info on this engine would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

So many companies made inline 8s (Pontiac, Olds, Buick, Packard, Pierce-Arrow, Chrysler, Studebaker, just to name but a few), that I'd have no idea where to start.  Do you know how old the engine is, or where it came from?  Pierce-Arrow straight 8s were made for many years after the auto company went out of business, and were used in numerous makes of fire engines.  Could it have come from a fire truck?
