Vintage Cars: VIN # location, light duty trucks, international harvester trucks

Question
I have a (what looks to be a 1962 International Harvester pick-up) that I am looking to find the vin #. Any ideas where to look? Thanks much for any help.

Answer
Older pickups were often sold as "chassis-cab" models (no body behind cab of truck), or even "chassis-only" (no cab, just a firewall).  So, they needed to put the VIN where it would be available to all.  I'd try looking under the hood, probably on the firewall.  I'd also try some of the classic truck forums, such as this one:

Scroll down the page, and you'll see they have a section devoted to just International Harvester trucks.  My knowledge of the IH light-duty trucks is pretty limited, other than the Travelall was the first luxury SUV (before we even called them that!), and the pickups and Scouts can last forever with a little basic maintenance.  Good luck!
