Vintage Cars: 1969 Dodge Daytona, rapid transit system, 1969 dodge daytona

Question
Can you tell me how many 440, 440 6-pack, and 426 hemi dodge daytonas were built in 1969?

Answer
Last part first: Dodge built only 505 Daytonas, despite the fact that dealers received orders for at least 1200.  The numbers of individual engines are tough, as Chrysler didn't keep records on stuff like that.  In fact, thru 1968, they didn't even keep track of how many particular models they built.  For instance, I can tell you how many 1968 Chargers were built, but I couldn't tell you how many were base coupes, how many were R/T's, etc...  Try contacting some of the Mopar clubs, like the W.P.C. Club of Kalamazoo, MI, the Rapid Transit System club in Detroit, or the Mopar Scat Pack Club in Dearborn; they just might have some engine data.  I do know this:  the Daytona is the rarest model, but the rarest ENGINE was the standard slant 6, offered from '68 on.  Best estimates are that maybe 500 Chargers per year left the factory with that legendary inline six under the hood.
