Vintage Cars: 1967 Oldsmobile Delta 88, oldsmobile delta 88, water hoses

Question
Hello!
I have a 1967 Olds in my Garage which is absolutely stock condition with 58K miles. The car has not been running for about 8 years, It was running perfect when I parked it. Other then removing the old gas in the tank and lines, what would I have to do to properly start this vehicle and get it running again?
The car is a 4 door hardtop with a 425 cu. inch engine and in mint condition without any rust anywhere. The upholstery is original and was never sat on as it was covered with the plastic see through seat covers and still is.
Finally. what would the car be worth on the market today?
Looking forward to your advise.
Thank you.
Gerry

Answer
Hi Gerry,

Aside from fresh fuel and flushing the tank and lines, I'd suggest doing the same for the brakes, at least bleeding the lines and getting clean fluid in there.
Ditto the cooling system. Flush out the old coolant and add new. You might put in a new thermostat, too, not a big job.

Also, you need to look over all the 'rubber' parts of the car, such as fuel lines and water hoses. Shine a light on them, tug on them, look them over very carefully.

Last of all, the tires are probably square by now and will need replacing.

As for starting it up, I'd take out all the spark plugs, squirt Marvel Mystery oil (a spoonful or two) in each cylinder, let it sit a while and then turn the engine by hand if you can. If not, turn the engine with the starter but pull the coil wire so the car doesn't start.

Once it cranks over smoothly, then you can start it up.

If everything seems okay, change the oil and start out on a 5 mile trip. If there are no leaks, go 50 miles and then inspect again. If that's okay, I think she's fine.

As for value, 4-door cars of this vintage are generally not very valuable, even in nice shape. I'd guess $3,500-5,000 tops for a very nice car.

good luck with it,
