Are you aware of who gives you car insurance quotes online?

The availability and accessibility of car insurance quotes has never been higher. The Internet has opened up a whole new world for insurance, but many people still are not making the most of it. Instead of looking around for car insurance quotes they are taking up the option to renew with their existing car insurance provider year after year and missing out on a potential 500 pounds saving.

Take Mrs Harding for example. She has a 2007 Jaguar XKR Coupe and managed to save pounds 384 pounds by switching from her old provider to Churchill after finding Churchill through a comparison site. As a 34-year-old woman with 5 years no claims bonus and a home in a rural and relatively safe area, she received a substantial discount.

Mrs Harding is one of many drivers that have saved money via car insurance quotes from comparison sites. The amount of information you have to put into the form is largely dependent on the aggregator you are using, but you can get between 10 and 100 car insurance quotes just by inputting your car make and model, postcode, registration, age and no claims years, amongst other details.

Aggregator sites allow you to compare all of the relevant quotes that are returned quickly and easily. You can compare the level of cover and price just by clicking on different options, and all from the comfort of your own home in just five minutes of your time.

That is not to say that aggregator sites do not have disadvantages because they do. For example, it makes it easier for a driver to just compare price and take the cheapest policy out without actually looking at the policy. Some features that are considered essential by the individual driver may just be left out. Also, aggregators do not ask all of the questions required to formulate a quote so the price you are given is just a guide price instead of a definitive quote.

The final insurance quote direct from the car insurance company (passed from the aggregator) will often be more because they will ask more specific questions relevant to their insurance. Mr Bennett is a prime example because he obtained an aggregator quote on his Vauxhall Corsa 3 door. The original quote was for 394 pounds, but he ultimately had to pay 479 pounds on account of his lack of garage and defunct car alarm. The aggregator asked about neither.

You could simply use an aggregator comparison site to find brand name insurance companies and compare those just ignore who you dont recognise.

Going directly to an insurer can have its advantages. You are asked the relevant questions every time and can choose the insurers you prefer to get a quote. It may take a little more time but it may be worth it in the long term.
