The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), a non-profit funded by the insurance industry, has released its list of the top 10 cars stolen in 2010, with two Hondas from a decade and a half ago topping the list.
For the first time since 2002, the study found that there were more domestic cars in the top ten than foreign models, though a foreign model continued to take the top spot, which has happened every year since 2000.
In the United States, however, overall car theft rates have continued to decline. According to the NICB, preliminary data by the FBI points to 2010 as having the lowest car theft rate since 1967. One of the main reasons for this is continued improvements in anti-theft technology, including GPS tracking devices.
To determine the list, the NICB uses data on both insured and uninsured vehicles, which it claims is the only such list of its kind. So without further ado, here are the NICB’s top ten stolen cars of 2010:
