How to Find Repossessed Cars

Finding a deal on a used car can be a tedious process. However, you can save time and money if you know exactly what type of car you're looking for. You can save more money if you search for a car that was repossessed. Dealerships sell repossessed cars on their lots, but they may not tell you a car was repossessed. Your best bet is to go to an auction that deals with repossessed cars.

Auctions

  • Go to Gov-Auctions.org (see Resources). This website helps you narrow down what kind of car you are looking for and what auctions are available in your area.

  • Select the model of car you are looking for from the drop-down menu. Type in your ZIP code, then click on the "Search" button.

  • Search the list of upcoming auctions.

  • Look at recently closed auctions to see what people are paying for the make and model you are searching for.

EBay

  • Go to eBay Motors (see Resources) and click on the "Advanced Search" option at the top of the screen.

  • Fill in the information that meets the criteria for the car you are searching for and add "Repossessed" as a keyword.

  • View used cars near you. Some descriptions will notify you that the car was repossessed.
