What Parts Are Excluded in a Chevy Factory Warranty?

A warranty that covers many major repairs gives you peace of mind when you buy a new vehicle. Chevy's warranty lasts for five years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The warranty covers the engine, drivetrain and transmission as well as offering 24-hour roadside assistance. However, it is important to know what parts of your new vehicle aren't included in the warranty.

Wear Items

  • The parts of your car or truck that become worn from normal driving are not covered by Chevy's factory warranty. These parts include brake pads and linings, windshield wiper blades and air filters. Batteries also fall under this category.

Fluids

  • You are expected to maintain your car while it is under warranty. Regular maintenance includes changing the oil and keeping fluids topped off. These fluids and the cost of the maintenance are not covered under the standard factory warranty. Fluids include oil, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid and antifreeze.

Non-Factory Installed Equipment

  • If you upgrade or alter the factory-installed GM components of your new Chevy, these items are no longer covered by warranty even if the warranty states coverage of them. For example, the Chevy warranty covers axle damage, but if you upgrade to a different axle and it becomes damaged it's repair is not covered.

Engine Exclusions

  • In 2010 vehicles several items are excluded from the Chevy warranty: sensors, wiring, hoses, the engine radiator and the core for the coolant and heater. The timing belt is only covered until your first scheduled maintenance. Also excluded is the pressurized fuel system, the control module and its programming. The covered parts of the cooling system only include those between the water inlet pump and the thermostat housing.

Transmission Exclusions

  • 2010 Chevy warranties do not cover transmission wiring, hoses, cooling lines and the transmission radiator. The transmission control module and its programming are not covered, nor is the clutch and pressure plate.

Powertrain and Drive System Exclusions

  • As with the other 2010 exclusions, the warranty does not cover wiring or hoses for the powertrain. Also excluded are the control modules and their programming. Wheel bearings, locking hubs and front and rear hub bearings are not under warranty.
