If you've been following our coverage of the 2011 Geneva Auto Show and can't get enough of exotic cars, the new Car Wallpapers HD app lets you carry automotive eye candy around on your iPhone. The free app is heavy on European luxury and exotics, with a few American muscle cars thrown in for good measure, and lets you choose a cool-car iPhone wallpaper by favorite makes and other categories.
And if your rockin' the iPhone 4, the app is optimized for the the device's Retina Display technology for crisp, clear pics of gorgeous cars.
Vehicles are separated into three categories — Recent, Popular and Random — from tabs along the top. A fourth tab titled Filters lets you pick from all pictures, view the ones you've already downloaded or choose from certain makes. This short list includes Aston Martin, Audi, Benz, BMW, Ferrari, Lambourghini (sic), Lexus, Porsche and Others. (And it's interesting that Lexus is the sole Japanese brand to make the cut, whereas Britian's Jaguar and Italy's Bugatti don't.) The final tab leads to a contact and share screen, FAQs and the requisite legalese.
All cars are initially presented in a series of nine tiles, and you can swipe left or right to get to the next nine. Tap to choose a car out of the nine displayed, and the selected ride is previewed. On the preview screen, tabs along the bottom allow returning to the main nine-tile screen, skipping backward and forward to the next individual vehicle, choosing a Lock Screen Preview or Home Screen Preview and emailing the image or saving it to the iPhone's photo album,
Visible on every screen, along the very bottom, are ads that support the free app. What, you think you can have an exotic — or even a picture of one — for free?
