How to Reset the Kill Switch in a 2003 Jaguar XJ8

The 2003 Jaguar XJ8 includes several safety features designed to help reduce vehicle-related accidents and injuries. In addition to a supplemental restraint system, automatic headlamps and other common safety items, the 2003 XJ8 also employs an inertia switch that will disable the electronic fuel pump in the event of an accident. The inertia “kill” switch may also deactivate the fuel pump after the vehicle sustains a substantial jolt or bump. Resetting the inertia switch will restore proper functionality to the vehicle's fuel pump.

  • Examine the vehicle for damage and fuel leakage, if involved in an accident. Do not attempt to start the vehicle after sustaining heavy mechanical damage.

  • Open the driver door and place the ignition in the “0” position.

  • Examine the lower driver's side rocker trim area, located near the foot well, beneath the dash panel. Insert your index finger into the large access hole labeled “RESET.” Press the red-colored inertia switch button, located inside the access hole.

  • Release the inertia switch button and turn the ignition key to the “II” position. After five seconds, switch the ignition back to the “0” position.

  • Complete the process by checking underneath the vehicle for fuel leaks, before starting the engine.
