Even though it's part of the public record, the state of Michigan doesn't let anyone have immediate access to any citizen's driving records. You must file a formal request through the Michigan Department of State and Record Lookup Unit to view your driving record.
Download form BDVR-153 from the Michigan Department of State website. Fill in the required information, including your name, current address and phone number, as well as your driver’s license number and date of birth. Include credit card payment information to cover the look-up fee or pay with money order or check. As of 2015, the fee was $8 per record. In Section 6, explain why you are requesting your driving record and sign and date the form. Mail it to the Michigan Department of State address listed on the form.
If you are paying by credit card or have a Department of State account, you can fax form BDVR-153 into the Department of State fax line or submit your request over the phone at 517-322-1181. You will need your driver’s license number, full name and date of birth.
Mail, fax and phone requests typically take three weeks to process, but you can get same-day service at a Michigan Department of State branch location. Use the branch office locator feature on the Michigan Department of State website to find the one nearest to you. Walk-in records cost $9 as of 2015, and you only need to show your driver’s license to get one.
