How to Find Driver's Ed Practice Tests

One of the first things you learn when preparing for your licensing examination is that laws vary from state to state. One thing that remains the same throughout the country is that all applicants must take a written test before they receive their instruction permit or Drivers' License. Study and practice before taking the test so there is no question you are ready to hit the road.
So, if all states have different requirements, how do you practice for your written drivers'test before the big day? You have a few options.

  • Visit the Department of Motor Vehicles online. Select the state in which you reside from the map. The site automatically directs you to your state's official DMV website. Every state offers practice tests, local testing centers, hours of operation and other useful information.

  • Buy a book about driver's education. Search Amazon.com or Yahoo's shopping directory to find a list of books on the subject. They also offer book reviews, ratings and comparisons. Study the book and take the practice tests.

  • Visit your local library. Libraries contain a wealth of information on every topic imaginable. Ask the librarian what information and resources they have about driver's education.

  • Enroll in a driver's education class. Depending on your age, your state may require that a driver's education course be completed before you apply for your license. If this is the case, the course provides practice tests as well as hands-on training.

  • Pick up a driver's handbook at your local DMV. This manual teaches the rules of the road and gives you a chance to practice your knowledge by taking a practice test in the back of the book.
