How to Reduce Windshield Reflections

Besides the fact that excessive windshield reflection or glare can be a nuisance, it can also be a safety concern because of reduced driver visibility. Windshield reflections are most commonly caused by reflected light from the dashboard, the a-pillar or from the sunroof. If one or more of these reasons is the case, the remedy is generally as easy as purchasing a dashboard rug, which is a non-reflective surface that covers your dashboard. A scratched windshield can also produce more than desirable amounts of reflection. If this is the case, you may need to replace your windshield or find a professional to buff out the scratch.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Dashboard rug
  • Scissors

Dashboard Rug

  • Measure the dimensions of your dashboard with the measuring tape.

  • Purchase a dashboard rug at your local automotive goods dealer, making sure the rug's dimensions will nearly fit your dashboard size. Choose a non-reflective material.

  • Place the dashboard rug onto your vehicle's dashboard. Cut the excess edging of your dashboard rug if there is slack.
