How to Upgrade Ford Syncing

With Sync, powered by Microsoft, you can enjoy hands-free calling, GPS navigation and vehicle diagnostic reports. You can upgrade the Ford Sync system yourself with a USB drive, or you can have your Ford dealership upgrade it for you. Many electronic retailers carry USB drives, in case you do not have one in your home or office. Upgrading the software, will give you access to new features and components of the Ford Sync system.

Things You'll Need

  • USB drive
  • Navigate to the "Sync My Ride" website. Log in with your account information, or create an account.

  • Go to the "Update and Customize" tab. Select the desired upgrade option. You can either print out the page and take it to your Ford dealership, or click "Download" for available upgrades.

  • Follow the instructions for installing the file to your computer. Insert a USB drive in an available USB port. Save the files to the USB drive. Remove the USB drive when the transfer is complete.

  • Get in your Ford car. Turn the vehicle ignition to "Start." Plug the USB drive into the USB port in your Sync system.

  • Touch "Information" at the start screen. Tap "Sync Apps" in the middle of the screen. Select "Begin Software Installation."

  • Wait for the upgrade to complete. Once it is complete, remove the USB drive and turn off your vehicle.
