Windshield wipers and headlights on your vehicle are important safety devices that allow you to see while driving at night or during inclimate weather. The windshield wipers clear away rain and snow from the windshield while the headlights help you see better at night. Wipers should be checked every six months to make sure that the rubber compound on the blades is not damaged while the headlights should be periodically inspected to make sure they are working normally. But if everything is working fine, then the only thing left is to make sure you know how to use your wipers and headlights.
Start your vehicle's engine. Turn the ignition key to the "II" position. You should see various dash lights light up. Turn the ignition key to the "II" position and you'll hear the engine cranking. Continue cranking the engine until it starts.
Turn on the headlights. There is typically a switch on the stalk or combination switch on the left side of the steering wheel. Rotate the end of the stalk away from you (counterclockwise if you were to look straight onto the end of the stalk from the left side of the steering wheel). On some vehicles, the headlight switch is located on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. For these types of headlight switches, turn the knob clockwise to turn the headlights on. Use your headlights when it is dusk, or when the sun goes down and you can't see the road. Also, always use your headlights when it's raining or snowing.
Turn the end of the stalk on the right side of the steering wheel away from you to activate the windshield wipers. If you were to look straight onto the end of the stalk, you would be turning the stalk clockwise. Use your windshield wipers whenever it is raining or snowing outside. Also, wipers are effective at clearing away debris from the windshield.
