For some, thunderstorms, even with rain and lightening, are an awe inspiring force of nature; for others, they are terrifying events. However, driving in them can be tricky, even for the experienced motorist.
Turn on your car or other radio to any channel giving the weather report. This way you can stay on top of just where the storm is going to hit.
Turn your headlights on low, so you can be seen, and slow down your car.
Make sure there is extra distance between you and the car in front of you for braking purposes.
Pull over to the side of the road and put on your hazard lights so other cars will know you are there when the thunderstorm produces extremely heavy rains.
Stay in your car when lightening, which is normally part of the thunderstorm, begins to flash across the sky. Being in a car gives you better protection than being out in the open since the car is grounded by the wheels.
