How to Stop at a Three-Way Stop Sign

Knowing the rules of the road before setting off in a two-ton vehicle is necessary to protect both yourself and other drivers from accidents resulting from ignorance of automotive etiquette. Three-way stop signs, because somewhat uncommon, are often confusing to drivers.

  • Stop at or slightly before the actual sign (or line painted across the road). Bring your vehicle to a complete halt.

  • Remember that right-of-way belongs to the first car stopped at the stop sign and continues until all cars have passed.

  • Keep in mind that if multiple cars stop at the same time, the vehicle on the left should yield to the vehicle on the right.
