How to Tow a Nissan Rouge

If you suffer a breakdown on the road you may be left with the unfortunate task of towing your vehicle to a repair facility. With the Nissan Rogue this is not a big problem as you will be able to hook up a tow chain and pull the vehicle to safety. The best option is to call a tow truck or other professional tow service, but sometimes this can be very expensive if you're only going a few miles.

Things You'll Need

  • Tow chain
  • Tow vehicle
  • Move the shifter on the immobilized vehicle to Neutral (N). Do not leave the shifter in park. Engage the parking brake on the immobilized vehicle to hold it in place.

  • Pull the tow hook cover firmly forward. Remove the tow hook from the tray and screw it firmly into the hole.

  • Position the tow vehicle in front of the immobilized vehicle. Back it close to the front bumper so the chain can easily reach between them and still have some slack. Hook the chain to the tow hook in the front bumper of the Nissan Rogue and to the tow ball of the towing vehicle.

  • Turn the Nissan ignition on. Even if the car won't start you need to do this to prevent the steering from locking when you turn the steering wheel. Release the parking brake and hold your foot firmly on the brake.

  • Slowly pull the tow vehicle forward to take up the slack in the chain. As the chain tightens, hold your foot on the brake to keep the tension in the chain, otherwise it may snap tight, causing the vehicle to jerk or the chain to break. Whenever the two vehicles stop the vehicle in the rear should brake harder so the chain stays tight, otherwise it will jerk when the vehicles more again.
