How to Change Clothes While Driving

While it is dangerous to change your clothes while driving, many people do it routinely. In fact, no matter where you look, motorists everywhere are on the road shaving or putting on make-up. Can you blame a person for wanting to save a little time? Of course not! Changing in your car not only saves you time but also provides a safe place to change when you don’t have anywhere to do it.

Things You'll Need

  • 2nd set of clothes and shoes
  • Money for fines, if you are ticketed
  • Determine whether you have an automatic or manual transmission. Driving an automatic on a down slope, you only need to worry about braking occasionally. With manual transmissions, you may need to shift gears down while coasting downhill.

  • Take off any accessories, such as a tie, and undo your seatbelt.

  • Take off your shirt. Put one side of your shirt on by holding the steering wheel with your left hand. After the right side of the shirt is on properly, grip the steering wheel using your right hand. Put on the other side of the shirt.

  • Change your bra. With a hook-type bra, force your back against your seat, leaving the other side mobile. Unhook your bra by pushing the strap, nearest to the hook, in the appropriate direction. Keep the other side immobile. Follow the same instructions to put on your new bra.

  • Untie and remove your shoes. Reach down with your right hand to take off the right shoe. Keep one hand on the steering wheel.

  • Take off your belt, if you have one. Use your right hand to take it off, as you grip the steering wheel with your left.

  • Take off your pants or dress. Use both hands to unbutton your pants. Take your hands off the steering wheel briefly. Use one hand to pull down on the garment, taking one leg off at a time.

  • Take off your socks. Bring each foot up to your body. Avoid having to bend down. Use one hand to take off each sock.

  • Replace stockings. Use your right hand to pull on the left stocking foot and the left hand to pull on the right.

  • Replace your underwear using your right hand. Insert one leg at a time. Ensure that there aren’t vehicles nearby to prevent accusations of indecent exposure.

  • Replace your pants using one hand. To button your garment, you may need to use both hands, briefly taking each hand from the steering wheel.

  • Replace your belt using your right hand. Use your left hand to continue inserting the belt strap. Use your right hand to buckle the garment.

  • Replace your shoes using your right hand. Don’t tie them until you stop the vehicle.

  • Put on your tie by putting your left elbow on the steering wheel. Use both hands to finish.

  • Brush or comb your hair and replace any accessories.
