How to Get a California FasTrak Toll Tag

FasTrak is a convenient toll payment option for Northern California drivers who frequently travel any of the eight bridges in the Bay Area. Drivers using FasTrak do not need to stop at toll booths, because the fees are automatically deducted from a prepaid account. Read on to learn how to get a California FasTrak toll tag.

Sign Up Online

  • Apply online or download and complete the application on the FasTrak website. More than one transponder may be on a single account, but an additional deposit is required for more than three.

  • Select the automatic or manual replenishment option. A credit card can be automatically charged when the balance reaches a pre-set minimum amount. Alternatively, you may add funds by making payments by check or cash.

  • Submit the completed application form along with the required initial payment amount to a FasTrak Customer Service Center by mail, fax or in person.

  • Pick up a transponder immediately in person or wait to receive it by mail.

  • Mount the FasTrak transponder on the inside of the front windshield. Remove the clear plastic tape from the mounting strips and attach the transponder behind the rear view mirror.

Purchase at a Retailer

  • Purchase a FasTrak transponder at a Costco or Safeway store. The purchase price is really a deposit and a small prepaid amount so you can use the toll tag immediately.

  • Mount the FasTrak transponder on the inside of the front windshield. Remove the clear plastic tape from the mounting strips and attach the transponder behind the rear view mirror.

  • Register online or by phone within seven days of first use.

  • Select the automatic or manual replenishment option. With automatic replenishment the deposit is waived and the amount you paid when you purchased the transponder is applied to your prepaid balance.
