Databases provided by state and city governments allow a user to search for traffic violations using their driver license number, birth date or license plate number. New York City's e-service center is one example of a place were driver's can have online access to their driving records. A more comprehensive driving record can be obtained by submitting a written request to the National Driver's Registry (NDR). An NDR record request form is printed from the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) website and mailed to the NDR office.
Visit your city's or state's official government website. Click on a tab that says "pay your traffic ticket" or "traffic ticket payment."
Enter your license plate number into the text box on the search screen. You may be able to search by driver's license number or birth date. Click "Search" and allow the website a few minutes to search the database.
Check the ticket information for accuracy. You may now pay the ticket online using a credit card or schedule dates for traffic school. If you choose to contest a ticket, you will be required to appear in court.
Print a copy of the ticket for your records.
Print a NDR form from a DMV website. See the resources section for a link to a PDF version of the form.
Take your form to a local notary. Your NDR form must be notarized to verify your identity. A notary public will hold a surety bond from an insurance company and have documentation from the state verifying her status as a notary. Many business owners, teachers, lawyers and civil servants act as a notary public. See the Resources section for a database of notaries that is searchable by city and zip code.
Mail the completed NDR form to your state's DMV office.
