Distracted Driving Car Accidents Among Teens

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety recently conducted a study which revealed that distracted driving is a major contributor in teenage car accidents.
Cameras that recorded what drivers were doing before a crash, while simultaneously capturing what was happening on the road, were mounted in cars with teen drivers. More than 6,842 videos were analyzed. Almost 2,000 of them revealed the actions of teen drivers in the moments before a crash.

The researchers found that distractions were a factor in 60% of the accidents that were recorded, which is four times higher than previous official estimates. Car accidents are the leading cause of death among teenagers in America. In light of the researchers’ findings, AAA is urging states to pass laws to reduce teen driver distractions, such as prohibiting cell phone use while driving and limiting the number of passengers permitted in a car with a teen driver.
