Back-Over Car Accidents

Generally, we hear less about motor vehicle accidents than we hear about accidents between two vehicles, but it is important to note that back-over accidents involving pedestrians can be fatal.
Due to multiple back-over accidents involving small children, auto manufacturers are now required to equip their new model vehicles with back-up or reverse cameras. However, most of the vehicles still on the road today do not contain back-up cameras.

While the amount of these crashes is significantly less than other automobile crashes, the majority of back-over accidents result in life-threatening injuries.

As one might expect, the majority of back-over car accidents take place off of public roadways. This type of potentially tragic occurrence can happen in parking lots, multi-level parking garages, in urban alleyways, and in residential driveways, not to mention any other location where foot traffic and motor vehicles are in close proximity.

Specifically, toddlers and other younger children can end up being run over by the family car or a vehicle driven by a friend, neighbor or commercial delivery truck driver. In many instances, the driver who causes the injury or death of a child in a back-over accident can often be a family member, close relative or good friend. Such an event can lead to extremely traumatic and upsetting circumstances for all those touched by this kind of tragedy.
