Most Motorists Worried about Erratic Motorists on Roads

A recent study by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers found that the number one concern for most American drivers is the presence of erratic or careless drivers.
The presence of erratic or careless drivers is the number one concern for most American motorists. Approximately 2/3rd of the motorists who responded to a recent survey by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers confirmed that they have been in situations recently where their risk of an accident increased because another motorist cut them off. Approximately 50% of the respondents confirmed that in the past month, they had been in a situation where they were forced to stand on the brakes to avoid an accident.

Other common car accident situations that motorists seem to find stressful are stop-and-go traffic. These situations are stressful for motorists, and increase the risk of aggressive driving and road rage-related incidents.
There was some good news in the survey by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. For example, 66% of the respondents said that they wanted a computer-based safety feature in their car to avoid accidents.

Approximately 44% of the respondents said that they wanted auto safety systems that sounded audible alerts or provided visual alerts if there was a risk of an accident, while 32% of the motorists wanted a system that would step on the brakes or steer the vehicle if there was an accident risk.

Some of the more popular safety systems cited by motorists in the survey were self parking systems, because they help with parallel parking, and with avoiding pedestrian accidents in parking lots.

The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers survey also found that distracted driving is widespread in the American motorist population, with more than 90% of motorists choosing to keep their cell phone within easy reach while driving. The survey also indicated that motorists now perform myriad tasks while driving, like surfing the web, reading e-mails, and using their smart phone for navigation instructions.
