With the 4th of July falling mid-week this year, we weren’t sure how many opportunities there would be to go camping, but it turns out there are still a lot available!
As long as you are flexible, you will be able to find campsites with electricity. While campgrounds are filling up for the weekend following the holiday, it appears that there are plenty of places to camp before – and on – the holiday itself.
When selecting a campsite, start by determining your actual camping location. (For the best campsites, search www.reserveamerica.com.) Consider what is important to you in your camping experience and go from there:
1. Fireworks
Not many campgrounds or parks allow fireworks, but there are some. You will have to search specifically for this criterion, and should not assume that you will be able to watch or set off fireworks anywhere you go. For those of you camping near Dallas, Texas, you can find options here. If you are camping somewhere else be sure to be careful, and specific, when searching.
2. BBQ
Campsites and state parks almost always allow barbequing, and will also have picnic tables available for a family-style meal. Cook up a traditional 4th of July spread with hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, and plenty of side dishes!
3. Site-Seeing
If you plan on camping for a few days, and want to explore your surroundings, consider going to a State or National park. You can watch the wildlife, go hiking, and enjoy beautifully blue water! Glacier or Yellowstone are always great options.
If you don’t end up camping for a long period of time, there are tons of other fun things to do that are still outdoors over the holiday weekend. Some of my favorite activities are boating, golfing, visiting a theme or water park, and just taking the ol’ RV out for a spin. No matter what you decide, spend some time with your friends and family and enjoy the beautiful weather!
