First Drive Review

First displayed at the North American International Auto Show last January in Detroit, the 2007 Lexus LS460 and LS460L (for Long wheelbase) have been formally introduced. In addition to being completely redesigned, Lexus has added a new long-wheelbase model, a first for any Lexus vehicle (more on that in a bit).

Strong Family Resemblance

Both the base and long-wheelbase models are carved from Lexus's new "L-finesse" styling paradigm started with the GS and now in full swing on IS and ES models as well. This new style is most obvious in the long hood, short deck look which makes the GS look a little bit hunchbacked but comes across much cleaner on the larger LS. That long, stately hood slopes down to a tapering grille flanked by large, crystalline headlamps. The view from dead front clearly shows the family resemblance to several recently redesigned Lexi. In profile, the LS' slab sides and subtle fender flares recall the "flame surfacing" on certain BMWs, particularly as seen on the 5-series. Not to mention the kink in the rear quarter window, which is about as close to BMW's trademark "Hoffmeister kink" as one can get without copyright infringement).
