The emergency brake pads on a Ford F-250 are part of the braking system on the rear axle. The emergency brakes use the rear brake calipers and rear brake pads to keep the truck still. If the rear brake pads wear down from use or if you notice the emergency brake not holding the truck steady, then you need to change the brake pads and install new ones so that the emergency brake works properly.
Put the wheel chocks on the F-250's front wheels. Lift the rear axle of the F-250 off of the ground with the jack and slide a pair of jack stands underneath the sides of the axle. Take off the rear wheels using a tire iron.
Unbolt the brake caliper from the mounts on the axle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Pull the caliper off of the axle and pull the brake pads out of the brake caliper.
Install the c-clamp so that the threaded end is installed against the piston in the center of the caliper. Tighten the c-clamp until the piston in the caliper compresses. Remove the c-clamp.
Install the replacement brake pads into the brake caliper. Bolt the brake caliper onto the rear axle with the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the rear wheels with the tire iron and lower the truck off the jack stands with the jack.
Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brakes against the rotor. Remove the wheel chocks from the front wheels.
