Powerbuilt Ball Joint Removal Tool Instructions

Powerbuilt tools are available at most auto parts stores, where they can be rented so you can do your job without making a major investment. The ball joint removal tool is a specialty tool that most home mechanics will only have to use once or twice ever. The Powerbuilt ball joint removal tool can remove almost any ball joint from your vehicle in just a few hours' time.

Things You'll Need

  • Powerbuilt ball joint removal tool
  • 1/2-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Locate one of the adapters in the Powerbuilt ball joint tool kit that fits over the pivoting end of the ball joint completely. Place it over the pivoting end of the ball joint.

  • Slide the ball joint removal tool over the ball joint so that the threaded shaft is on the head of the ball joint and the stable end of the tool is against the adapter you installed in Step 1.

  • Tighten down the threaded end of the ball joint removal tool using the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket. When the ball joint pops out of the control arm or tie rod end (or whatever else it's installed in), you can remove the tool from the assembly.
