How to Change the Thermostat on a Saab 900S

Although Saab has been selling vehicles in the USA for years, the number of its dealerships is relatively small and you can expect to pay premium prices for repairs. So it pays to be able to complete small repairs on your own, like changing a thermostat.

Things You'll Need

  • Saab 900S thermostat
  • Saab 900S thermostat gasket
  • 10 mm socket and ratchet
  • Remove the thermostat housing from the engine's intake manifold by removing the two 10 mm bolts that hold the housing onto the manifold. Pull up on the housing and slide both it and the radiator hose attached to it off to the side to allow access to the thermostat.

  • Pull the thermostat out of the intake manifold. Pay attention to the orientation of the thermostat. The correct end of the new one must face up. Place the new thermostat into the intake manifold with the correct end facing up.

  • Pull the old thermostat gasket off the flat surface of the intake manifold and replace it with a new thermostat gasket.

  • Bolt the thermostat housing back onto the intake manifold.
