Changing the oil on your Dodge Magnum is one of those routine maintenance items that needs to be done on a regular basis. The problem with the Magnum in particular is accessing the oil filter, as it's covered up by an access panel underneath the car. But once that's out of the way, replacing the oil filter is a simple process and can be done in just a few minutes.
Lift up the front of the vehicle using the jack and secure it on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is completely secure on the jack stands before you crawl under it.
Unbolt the cover from underneath the engine using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and place it to the side. This will expose the oil filter.
Place the drain pan underneath the oil pan on the engine. Then unbolt the drain plug on the oil pan to allow the engine oil to drain into the pan. Pop the hood and unscrew the oil fill cap. Allow the oil to drain completely.
Place the oil filter wrench on the oil filter and unscrew the oil filter from the car. This will cause some oil to pour out, so make sure the drain pan is still underneath.
Dip your finger in the drained oil and rub the oil around the rubber seal on the replacement oil filter. Then slide the new oil filter onto the threads and screw it into place, just using your hands, not the tool. Reinstall the drain plug using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then reinstall the cover under the engine using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.
Raise the vehicle off of the jack stands using the jack, and place it back on the ground. Fill the engine with oil, following the specifications listed in the owner's manual for your engine.
