Rear Bumper Removal for a Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has a bumper and fascia on the rear that uses a foam isolator to absorb impacts. Removing the fascia, absorber and bumper as a unit is possible or as separate components. Replacement bumpers are available from the dealership or through a collision parts supplier. In some cases. you can also find replacement bumpers, fascia and other components from a salvage yard in good condition.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Flat screwdriver
  • Socket set
  • Ratchet
  • Raise the rear of your Jeep Grand Cherokee using a jack and support it by placing a set of jack stands under the rear axle housing. Lower the jack until the Jeep is resting securely on the jack stands.

  • Locate the push-in connectors that secure the front edges of the bumper fascia along the back edge of the rear fender wells. Pop the connectors out with a flat screwdriver and set them aside.

  • Locate the four mounting bolts for the rear bumper brackets under the back of the Jeep on the rear frame section. There are two on each side of the Jeep.

  • Remove the two bolts on each side of the rear frame using a socket and ratchet. Pull the bumper straight off the rear of the Jeep. Set the bumper aside.
