Can I Unplug My 2006 Ford Explorer TMPS?

There are currently two types of commonly used tire pressure monitoring systems: direct and indirect. Your 2006 Ford explorer -- whether it is an XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer edition or Limited edition -- came standard with a direct tire pressure monitoring system. Each wheel on your Explorer is equipped with a valve stem that is connected to a wireless sensor. This sensor constantly monitors tire pressure and relays that data across a 315 MHz band to the TPMS receiver.

You're Stuck With It

  • The Tire Pressure Monitoring System was built into the on-board computer system and cannot be disabled or disconnected.
