Galant 2002 Radio Installation

For 2002, the Mitsubishi Galant received a refresh that included a restyled front end and interior. Standard equipment on the 2002 Galant included a 2.4-liter engine with 140 horsepower, cruise control, air conditioning and a 210-watt, seven-speaker AM-FM-CD audio system from Infinity. Removing and installing the radio requires removal of the decorative bezel around the radio, which may have become brittle over the years, so use care when removing it.

Things You'll Need

  • Trim stick
  • Phillips screwdriver

Removal

  • Pry the center bezel -- the plastic panel surrounding the radio and climate controls -- from the instrument panel to unlatch its fasteners, using a trim stick. Remove the bezel from the dash.

  • Remove the four screws securing the climate controls in the instrument panel, using a Phillips screwdriver. Slide the climate controls from their chassis in the instrument panel, and allow them to rest against the center console.

  • Find the screws on the bottom of the radio, and remove them with a Phillips screwdriver. Slide the radio from its chassis, and unfasten the wiring harness and antenna lead from its backside. Remove the radio from the vehicle.

Installation

  • Plug the wiring harness and antenna lead into their respective receptacles on the rear of the radio. Align the radio with its chassis in the instrument panel, and slide it into the chassis. Tighten the radio-retaining screws until they are snug.

  • Line the climate controls up with their chassis in the instrument panel, then slide the controls into place. Snug the climate control-retaining screws.

  • Align the center bezel-retaining clips with their slots in the instrument panel, and press the bezel into place on the instrument panel until all of the retaining clips snap into place.
