The 1994 Toyota 4Runner V6 Head Bolt Torque Specs

Your 1994 4Runner with the V-6 had a recall due to a defect in the head gaskets. The recall extended the warranty on these gaskets to eight years or 100,000 miles, which meant that the dealer would replace them for free. If you did not have this done within this time frame, you're stuck taking care of this repair yourself.

Head Bolt Torque Specifications

  • Apply a light coat of engine oil to the head bolt threads and heads. Install the 12-point head bolts and tighten them until they make contact with the cylinder head. Working from the center outward, torque the bolts to 33 foot-pounds. Then, again working from the center outward, tighten each bolt 90 degrees farther. Starting at the center and working outward, tighten each bolt 90 degrees again. Install the 6-point head bolt and torque it to 30 foot-pounds.
