How to Install a Blower Motor in a 1997 LeSabre

The Buick LeSabre has a long and rich history, dating all the way back to 1959. For most of its existence, the LeSabre was based on GM's rear-wheel-drive “B-Body” platform, which offered a smooth ride and a very accommodating engine compartment. The 1986 model marked the switch to a much lighter, smaller and arguably, a cheaper-looking front-wheel-drive design. By 1992, however, the LeSabre regained a little weight – with the curves to match. If properly maintained, your LeSabre's 3800 Series II V-6 may last for several hundred thousand miles, but other vehicle components – such as the blower motor – might not last as long.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • ACDelco part No. 15-8542 or equivalent blower motor
  • Inch-pound torque wrench
  • Foot-pound torque wrench
  • Open the hood. Allow the engine to cool, if necessary. Remove the nuts that secure the strut tower brace to the passenger and driver-side strut towers, using a socket, extension and ratchet. Remove the brace from the engine compartment.

  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor. The blower motor is mounted on the heater and air conditioning module, between the firewall and rear side of the engine. Disconnect the small cooling tube from the blower motor.

  • Remove the five hex-head screws that secure the blower motor, then pull the motor and fan assembly from the module. If there's any debris inside of the module, take the time to remove it before installing the replacement blower motor. Fit the replacement blower motor to the module and align the screw holes.

  • Secure the replacement blower motor with the screws and tighten them to 5 inch-pounds, using an inch-pound torque wrench. Connect the cooling tube and electrical connector to the blower motor. Fit the strut tower brace, then tighten the nuts to 25 foot-pounds, using a foot-pound torque wrench. Test the blower motor for operation.
