The 2007 Honda Civic wiper motor is located under the cowl. It’s attached to a tubular windshield wiper linkage support bracket. The wiper linkage uses replaceable plastic bushings to secure it to the wiper motor lever. Replacement of the motor is not difficult, but alignment of the parts is important. Honda has issued a service bulletin concerning the wiper motor on this car. If the wipers fail to park or stop when switched off, especially in cold weather, the wiper motor top plate is defective. Replace the plate to correct this.
Turn the ignition key on. Turn the wipers on, then off, to set the wipers in park. Turn the key off. Remove the cap on the wiper arms and remove the nut using a socket and ratchet.
Mark the wiper arm and drive shaft so the wiper arm can be installed in the same position relative to the drive shaft. Lift the wiper arm off the drive shaft. Remove the rubber insulator at the front edge of the cowl by gently peeling it off.
Remove all the plastic trim-fasteners securing the cowl using the small flat-head screwdriver. Lift off the cowl. Remove the six bolts securing the bracket that contains the wiper motor and drive shafts using a socket and a ratchet.
Lift the bracket up and unplug the windshield wiper motor. Mark the windshield wiper linkage and the wiper motor lever for alignment when installing it later. Also mark the rear of the motor lever opposite the linkage and the motor mounting bracket. If you look closely, there are three straight hash marks on the mounting bracket and one on the lever. Mark them to be sure that future alignment is no problem.
Remove the drive shaft nut securing the lever using a socket and ratchet. Lift off the lever and linkage. Remove the three bolts securing the motor to the mounting bracket using a socket and ratchet. Remove the motor.
Install the motor to the mounting bracket on the wiper assembly bracket. Torque all three bolts to 7 foot-pounds. Plug the electrical connector into the motor. Lay the assembly in place. Turn the ignition key on and turn the wipers on for a second and then off. Turn off the key. This will park the wiper motor.
Unplug the wiper motor. Roll the motor over so you can see the drive shaft. Install the motor drive lever, making sure the end mark aligns with the three hash marks on the mounting bracket. Install the nut and torque it to 13 foot-pounds.
Position and install the assembly. Plug the electrical connector into the wiper motor. Install the cowl and rubber insulator. Install the wiper arms, making sure the previously made marks align. Install the nut and torque it to 71 inch-pounds. Install the cap over the nut.
